AT&T Temporarily Halts Tower Construction

The communications company AT&T Mobility has agreed to temporarily  halt construction of a 450-foot-high cellular communications tower near the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness until a court hearing in early August.

The wilderness advocacy group Friends of the Boundary Waters Wilderness is suing the company over the tower’s construction.

KDLH Channel 3 in Duluth has a story on the matter HERE.

The Friends of the BWCAW’s lawsuit was filed in Hennepin County District Court. It alleges a violation of the Minnesota Environmental Rights Act. The suit asks the court to stop construction of the proposed tower and declared that the construction of the proposed tower would violate Minnesota Environmental Rights Act.

Background information on the Friends of the BWCAW’s suit can be found on their web-site, HERE, including the complaint filed in court and the “viewshed analysis” commissioned to analyze the visual impact of the 45-story tower near Ely.
