Ely Mayor Charged with BWCA Violations

Ely Mayor Roger Skraba has been charged with three counts of wilderness violations in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness, the Pioneer Press reports.

Skraba, who is the proprietor of YaTaHey Outdoors, a wilderness guide and snowmobile rental service, is accused of entering the wilderness area without a permit, possessing a motor vehicle within the wilderness, and removing property.  The charges stem from an alleged incident on March 22, 2007, before Skarba was elected mayor of Ely.

Skraba is currently scheduled to stand trial on the federal charges on Wednesday, December 9 in Duluth.
