New Book Celebrates 100 Years of Quetico

quetico_bookA new book by Thunder Bay author Jon Nelson, Quetico: Near to Nature’s Heart, celebrates the people and history of Quetico Provincial Park.

Originally from Minnesota, Nelson was so inspired by a 1960s Quetico canoe trip that he and his wife moved to Ontario to operate an outfitting business in 1973. Since then, their passion for the region has also inspired them to serve as Park rangers for twelve years and even played a role in Nelson’s pursuit of a Master’s degree in anthropology during the 1980s.

Now, on the 100th anniversary of the protection of Quetico as we know it, Nelson has channeled his passion for and knowledge of the park into his book. Quetico: Near to Nature’s Heart explores the Park’s natural and human history, starting from the time of the glaciers and advancing to today. Interwoven by striking photos and personal memories, Nelson’s book has captured praise. Atikokan Progress reviews the book HERE, or you can learn more about Nelson and his book on his web site.
