Sentence Upheld in BWCA Incident

A three-year prison sentence for Boundary Waters terrorizer Jay Andrew Olson was upheld by the Minnesota Court of Appeals this week.

Olson, one of six men convicted of participating in a drunken shooting spree that frightened campers on Basswood Lake in the BWCA in August of 2007, argued that his sentence should be reduced since those of others convicted for the incident were not as harsh as his.

The three judge appellate panel let presiding Judge Kenneth Sandvik’s orginal sentence stand, saying it was within the judge’s discretion to sentence Olson as he did.
