Vermilion Park Legislation Advances

A bill in the Minnesota State Senate which would raise the limitation on what the state can spend for the purchase of 3,000 acres of land for a new State Park on Lake Vermilion cleared a hurdle yesterday.

The Senate Environment and Natural Resources Committee referred the bill to the Senate Finance Committee moving it one step closer to passage. Minnesota Public Radio has a story on the matter HERE.

Concerns remain over funding for development of the land, which is currently owned by the U.S. Steel Corporation, into a park. As we reported, HERE, last week, funds to fully develop the park aren’t likely to be considered until 2012, the next bonding year, in St. Paul.

The Minnesota DNR has a web page devoted to the proposed park HERE.
