Voyageurs National Park Association is seeking participants for its 5th Annual Volunteer Rendezvous in September at Voyageurs National Park.
The event, which will focus on completion of the Ojibwe Encampment and Native Plant Garden at the park’s Rainy Lake Visitor Center, will take place on September 9 and 10. The ethno-botanical garden is designed to preserve biodiversity and educate park visitors about traditional Ojibwe uses for these plants for food, medicine, and other purposes.
At the event, volunteers will team up with National Park Service staff to plant native trees, shrubs, and wildflowers with cultural and medicinal significance in Ojibwe tradition. Volunteers are invited to explore the Park during free time. The Park Service will provide canoes to allow volunteers to paddle Voyageurs. A guided night hike is scheduled for Friday evening on the Oberholtzer Trail. Volunteers can celebrate the group’s accomplishments during a special complimentary dinner Saturday night.
