PolyMet Public Comment Meetings Set

Two public meetings to hear comments on the Draft Environmental Impact Statement for PolyMet Mining’s proposed copper-nickel mine near Babbitt, MN have been scheduled, the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers announced.

The first meeting will be held Wednesday, December 9, at the Memorial Gymnasium of Mesabi East Schools, 601 North First Street West in Aurora, MN. The second meeting will be held Thursday, December 10, at the Schwan Center at the National Sports Center, 1700 105th Avenue Northeast, Blaine, MN. Both meetings start at 7 p.m. and will be preceded by open house sessions beginning at 5 p.m.

The Minnesota DNR said in THIS media release that interested citizens can comment verbally or in writing at the meetings or submit comments to: Stuart Arkley, EIS project manager, DNR, Division of Ecological Resources, Environmental Review Unit, 500 Lafayette Road, Box 25, St. Paul, MN 55155-4025; or to Jon K. Ahlness, EIS project manager, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Regulatory Branch, 190 E 5th Street, St. Paul, MN 55101.

Comments on the Draft EIS will be accepted until 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 3, 2010.
