Voyageurs’ Park Ice Road Open

It’s truly winter at Voyageurs National Park these days:  the ice road from the Dove Island Boat Landing to Rainy Lake City and the Black Bay Ski Trail is now open, park officials announced yesterday.

In addition, all of the park’s snowmobile and ski trails are groomed and open for recreation.  Only the portage trail at Kettle Falls has yet to be groomed, although park officials expect that to happen shortly.

Persistent thin ice near the Rainy Lake Visitors’ Center has kept the ice road from opening in that area.
