Stimulus to Rehab Voyageurs Campsites

arrowhead1-1Voyageurs National Park will use $230,000 in federal stimulus funding to rehabilitate campsites over the next two years.

The International Falls Daily Journal reported HERE that the money appropriated through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act will support work on some 38 campsites, many of which have not been updated since they were inherited by the park from lands originally owned by Boise-Cascade and the State of Minnesota.

Since the funding was procured by Voyageurs through the National Park Services’ contingency list of projects for 2010, Voyageurs will have the money to start work on the projects this summer, although the primary work on the projects will be conducted next year.

Nationwide, National Parks received more than $750 million in stimulus package funding.
