Deer Herd Feeling Winter’s Impact

The northeastern Minnesota deer herd is showing the impact of a harsh winter, according to Department of Natural Resources officials who are finding dead deer around the region.

Minnesota Public Radio has the story HERE.

Cold temperatures and deep snow challenge deer in winter, and this winter both snow depth and temperatures have been more severe than normal.  The conditions make it more difficult for deer to find food and put whitetails at a disadvantage against wolves, their main predator.

Officials expect to see more deer mortality in the coming weeks.

Wilderness News Online reported earlier about the matter HERE.
