The Duluth News Tribune has the story HERE.

The lake frontage is the first protected by a new state-funded project which hopes to preserve more than 100 miles of Minnesota’s sensitive shoreline in the next ten years. The privately owned McFarland Lake property is notable for its undeveloped shore, high bluffs, and mature forest.

The easement binds the owner of the 37-acre parcel from ever building or developing the land, and requires that it remain open to the public. Fifteen thousand dollars from the Minnesota’s Outdoor Heritage Fund — sales tax funds from the “Legacy Amendment” — will be placed in trust to support management and enforcement of the easement.

McFarland Lake is located at the end of the Arrowhead Trail, near the eastern-most end of the BWCAW.
