Members of the public are invited to attend information sessions hosted by the National Park Service in Duluth, Minn., Houghton, Mich., and two online webinars regarding the proposed draft plan determining whether and how to bring wolves to Isle Royale National Park.
In December, the Park Service released a long-awaited proposal to bring wolves to Isle Royale to supplement the dwindling population. With wolves almost extirpated from the Lake Superior island for the first time since the 1940s, the population of moose is expected to explode, with significant implications for the ecosystem.
Reviewing four options, the agency prefers the option that would bring 20-30 wolves to the island, captured elsewhere in the region.
