PolyMet Mining, the Canadian firm that hopes to build a $600-million copper-nickel mine near Babbitt, MN has hired former Minnesota Pollution Control Agency Commissioner Brad Moore as an Executive Vice President.
Moore, who also served as an assistant commissioner of the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources before being tabbed as the MPCA head by then-Governor Tim Pawlenty in 2006, has worked most recently for Barr Engineering, where he advised several companies, including PolyMet, on environmental strategy.
Moore will serve as PolyMet’s Executive Vice President for Environmental and Governmental Affairs.
“I am excited to join the PolyMet team,” Moore said in a company media release. “PolyMet offers an important opportunity to Minnesota and the United States. We can provide essential minerals each of us uses every day and we can demonstrate that non-ferrous mining can be done in a way that meets Minnesota’s high environmental standards.”
PolyMet’s proposed mining operation is currently undergoing a second environmental review after the federal Environmental Protection Agency criticized the initial environmental review last year.
