Quetico Superintendent Leaving Park

Robin Reilly, the superintendent of the Quetico Provincial Park, in Ontario, Canada, since 2001, is leaving his position to become the superintendent of Sandbanks Provincial Park on Lake Ontario.

The Atikokan Progress has the full story HERE.

Reilly’s more than decade-long tenure at the park has seen the park celebrate its centennial, in 2009, add a full-time biologist to the park’s staff, and increase winter recreational usage of the park. Reilly was also instrumental in establishing the Heart of the Continent Partnership, a cross-border partnership among stakeholders in the Quetico-Superior region.

Reilly’s term also saw an increase in international border security concerns following the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the United States as well as a steady decline in overnight camper usage of the 1.2 million acre wilderness park.

Until a permanent replacement is hired, Quetico Provincial Park will be supervised by Atikokan Ministry of Natural Resources area manager Jeff Bonnema. He will be assisted by Quetico’s assistant superintendent Jennifer Lukacic.

Sandbanks Provincial Park, where Reilly will begin work on March 5, is located near Belleville, Ontario.
