Voyageurs National Park officials plan to burn an area on Tar Point near Blind Indian Narrows in Namakan Lake Thursday.
The prescribed burn is intended to help determine what effect fire has on archeological artifacts, the park media release, HERE, explained. The burn also includes two research plots to help determine the effects of fire on vegetation. The research will assist managers in updating the park’s fire management plan.
Park visitors are encouraged to avoid the area when fire operations are ongoing.
As we reported earlier, HERE, Voyageurs officials had planned to burn the area last spring, but were confounded by rainy weather.
