69 Wolves Taken During First Three Days of Hunt

Estimates show that 69 wolves were taken during the first three days of the inaugural wolf hunting season. According to the Star Tribune, 32 wolves were killed Saturday, 18 on Sunday and 16 on Monday. Hunters are allowed to take up to 200 wolves during the early season, which coincides with deer hunting season, and another 200 during a trapping and hunting season that begins the Saturday after Thanksgiving.

The same article reported that 61 wolves had been killed during Wisconsin’s trapping season.

According to an article in the Pioneer Press, wolf kill estimates could still be pretty close even though so many wolves had been killed during the first few days. Lou Cornicelli of the DNR told the Pioneer Press that  fewer hunters are likely to be in the woods during the remainder of the season.
