Superior National Forest officials lifted a ban on campfires in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness today.
The media release about the decision is HERE.
Effective at 7:00 a.m. today, campfires were “allowed any time of day in all areas of the BWCAW.” Last week, the U.S. Forest Service had banned campfires in the wilderness area except between 7:00 p.m. and midnight, due to warm, dry, and windy conditions.
Officials urged visitors to be careful with campfires — using designated fire rings when available and making sure all fires are completely extinguished before leaving them.
