How’s this for a little Friday fun: A time capsule being buried in Ely, MN will include a note from President Obama expressing his hope that balance can be struck between energy use and wilderness protection.
According to the Pioneer Press, the handwritten note came in response to a request made in March of 2012 by Gary Snyder of Ely, MN and was accompanied by a two-page typed letter that will be on display in Vermillion Community College.
The article states that part of the time capsule note reads: “Fifty years from now, I hope we have managed the balance between our energy needs and our need to preserve the planet so that the wilderness surrounding Ely remains as spectacular as you describe.”
The letter arrived in September, but the story has been making waves since the end of January because it was featured on NBC’s Today Show. You can watch the segment on Northland Newscenter’s web site, HERE.
