Campers found the fire Monday night around 8:00 p.m. Superior National Forest officials said that by Wednesday afternoon, aerial reconnaissance had shown the fire to have burned about six acres. The Forest Service is not attempting to put the fire out, but the News Tribune reported that firefighters did douse a spot fire cause by a spark from the fire.
Because the fire is nearly surrounded by water and conditions in the area are damp with light winds, no restriction are in force near the fire.
Gaskin Lake is roughly 20 miles from Grand Marais, east of the Gunflint Trail and north of Winchell Lake.
