The Voyageurs National Park Association was recently awarded a 2010 President’s Volunteer Service Award, a national award recognizing volunteer service by groups, families, and individuals in their communities.
The award was presented by the President’s Council on Service and Civic Participation. The President’s Volunteer Service Award recognizes those that have achieved a high standard of volunteerism, measured by the number of hours of service over a 12-month period or cumulative hours earned over the course of a lifetime.
Voyageurs National Park Association has been the leading nonprofit support group for Voyageurs National Park since 1965, working to protect and promote the Park’s resources. In accepting the honor, VNPA said it was honored to receive this award, and was appreciative of the Park and the volunteers who have given their time to further the mission of the organization.
VNPA promotes Voyageurs National Park through outreach activities and educational materials; helps protect it by monitoring potential threats, mobilizing constituents, and advocating for protection of the Park’s resources; and aims to enhance visitor experiences by supporting Park maintenance, events, and publications through hands-on volunteer and financial contributions.
The President’s Council was established in 2003 to recognize contributions made by Americans of all ages within their communities through service and civic engagement. The Council aims to bring together leaders from the worlds of business, entertainment, sports, education, government, nonprofits, and the media.
