Fire crews are battling a fire near Ely, MN. The fire was reported on Sunday afternoon and is burning on a peninsula between the west end of Cummings and the northeast side of Otter Lake. Current estimates place the fire at about 20 acres in size.
According to coverage from the Northland’s News Center, the cause of the fire is unknown. One helicopeter and 10 fire fighters are on the ground, and Forest Service Beavers and up to five more fire fighters are expected to join them today.
No structures have burned, and it is reported that none are in the line of fire. No closures are in place at this time but camping on Otter Lake is not recommended.
Another fire burning on the Canadian side of Basswood Lake is abut 20 to 30 acres and remains on the northern side of the border.
