For the second straight year, the number of people visiting Quetico Provincial Park is down.
Sam Cook of the Duluth News-Tribune reports in his Outdoor Blog, HERE, that park use is off some 10% from 2008, according to Quetico superintendent Robin Reilly. Quetico visits in 2008 showed a decrease from the previous year as well. The statistics are especially notable since 2009 is Quetico’s 100th anniversary year.
The News-Tribune’s outdoor writer also reports that visitor numbers at the adjacent Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness are steady, according to U.S. Forest Service officials.
Cook recently returned from a four-day trip to Quetico. He shares some photos of the trip in his blog post.
