Voyageurs National Park will celebrate its 35th birthday on Thursday, commemorating the April 8, 1975 date of its authorization by Congress as the country’s 36th national park.
The northern Minnesota park will remember the anniversary on its birthday and throughout the year.
An open house will be held at the Rainy Lake Visitor Center this Thursday. The public will have the opportunity to meet and greet former and current employees of Voyageurs National Park from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Cake and refreshments will be provided by Voyageurs National Park Association.
Already, a special anniversary display has been erected at the Rainy Lake Visitor Center, which will be up throughout the year. The International Falls Public Library is featuring a collection of intriguing books about Voyageurs National Park in April. The library also is displaying photos of Voyageurs on a large screen monitor.
