Breaking Ground at the Bear Center

June, a 300 pound bear being monitored by the North American Bear Center.

The North American Bear Center in Ely, MN, broke ground this week on its facility expansion. The project will double the size of the facility, which facilitates research, education and public exhibits.

The center has raised nearly $560,000 of its $1 million goal–you can track progress and give a donation of your own on their web site. According to the Duluth News Tribune, the project is slated to be completed by May.

Donations are coming from around the globe, spurred by fans of Lily, the birth of whose son was broadcast live by webcam.
