Fire Danger Very High in Region

Fire danger is high across the Quetico Superior region as agencies tighten burning restrictions and brace against ripe conditions for wildfires.

Minnesota Public Radio has THIS story about its concerns about fire conditions today.

Yesterday, the Lake County News-Chronicle noted, HERE, that the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources had tightened burning restrictions across the northern portion of the state.

Campfires were disallowed at non-designated campsites and other remote locations.  Campfires were permitted only in designated fire receptacles at residences, dwellings, campgrounds, and resorts, if they were not larger than three feet in diameter and three feet in height.

The Chippewa and Superior National Forests, including the entire Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness, are under similar restrictions.

Fire danger in northern Minnesota is currently considered “extreme.”

Fire danger in portions of Ontario that border Minnesota range from moderate to high.
