Minnesota Senator Grant Hauschild announced that Tettegouche State Park will receive $3.25 million for infrastructure upgrades. The money will help to replace a bridge and septic system. Tettegouche, located along the beautiful North Shore, is one of Minnesota’s most visited state parks, offering a wide range of recreational opportunities.
State funding brings upgrades
Tettegouche State Park, located along Minnesota’s North Shore, will receive $3.25 million for needed improvements. According to an announcement by Sen. Grant Hauschild, reported by WDIO, two upgrades are planned. Crews will replace the bridge leading to the campground entrance and upgrade the Visitors Center septic system.
Hauschild, who helped secure the funds for the work, stated, “We’re incredibly lucky to have a park like Tettegouche State Park that visitors from across the state and country can enjoy, and that delivers incredible benefits for our local economy.” He went on to add, “That’s why we must ensure resources like this have the modern, accessible infrastructure that they need to thrive. This funding will be pivotal to allowing more Minnesotans the great experience they deserve at Tettegouche State Park.”
The project received funding from a portion of a $30 million bonding bill. The funds are allocated to improve public lands and natural resources. As a result, the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources chose Tettegouche to receive funding for park improvements.

Recreation in the Park
The park spans 9,300 acres and features rocky cliffs, a scenic shoreline, inland lakes, and waterfalls. Additionally, about 23 miles of hiking trails wind through the park, including a section of the Superior Hiking Trail, one of the state’s best-known long-distance trails. For those who enjoy motorized exploration, 6.5 miles of ATV trails run through the park and connect to other trails outside the park.
Rock climbers come to scale some of the region’s dramatic cliffs. Shovel Point offers a popular overlook with excellent photo opportunities. Notably, the cliffs rise as high as 170 feet, giving visitors dramatic views in multiple directions.
Winter is also a magical time to explore the park. Dramatic ice formations line the shoreline, and snow blankets the woods. During this season, visitors can enjoy more than 15 miles of groomed cross-country ski trails, plus trails for snowmobiling and snowshoeing.
Tettegouche is one of Minnesota’s most popular state parks. In 2024, 537,824 people visited the park. The park also offers several camping and lodging options and welcomes everyone year-round.
