In a city-park partnership that would have been unthinkable a decade ago, plans are set for the city of International Falls to construct a headquarters building for Voyageurs National Park.
The International Falls Daily Journal reports on the matter HERE.
In the historic partnership, the city will construct and maintain the building which Voyageurs has agreed to lease for the next 20 years. The city intends the headquarters to be the anchor of a multifaceted development which would revitalize the Rainy Lake waterfront on the eastern side of International Falls.
Groundbreaking for the 40,000 square-foot headquarters building is scheduled for September 26. Future plans ultimately call for the construction of an interpretive center on the voyageur era in North America, an amphitheater, recreational trails, and a privately-owned destination-resort development near the headquarters.
