“The highlight of our trip to Voyageurs National Park was seeing [Comet] Neowise in the night sky. This image was taken just before we went to bed one night. The sky still has a slight glow from the setting sun.”

More than 150 people submitted photos to Voyageurs National Park Association’s 2020 photo contest. Only a handful could be named winners.

The images capture everything from the star-studded night skies to the sun rising and setting on stunning lakes. There’s wildlife — otters, bald eagles, walleye — and human life — kids, families, smiles.

Below are just a few of our favorite photos from this year’s contest. Congratulations to all of the participants! Visit VNPA’s website to see the award-winners and more.

“‘Bright Eyes’ – several days in a row this spring this juvenile great horned owl was in a nearby tree, we’ve seen the adult(s) but not sure where the nest might be.”

“This is a photo of my son’s first fish caught on Rainy Lake. He was the first to catch anything that day and had never seen a fish that large before. I think he was totally shocked to have successfully gotten it into the boat. Such a great memory. He’s been obsessed with fishing ever since!”
